HAYES DESIGNATED FOR ASSIGNMENT

Press Release

Brandon, Manitoba – The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that 20-year old goalkeeper Andrew Hayes has been designated for assignment.

A Sherwood Park, Alberta product, Hayes has spent the past three seasons with the Wheat Kings and leaves Brandon having compiled a franchise best 2.79 goals against average in 111 career games.

His eleven career shutouts is second best in club history, behind only Tyler Plante (12).

Tuesday’s move leaves the Wheat Kings with 31 players on its pre-season roster, including four goalkeepers – overager Jacob DeSerres, 18-year old Ty Rimmer and two 17-year olds Liam Liston and Corbin Boes. Liston and Rimmer split the duties this past weekend as the Wheat Kings swept a home and home series with the Regina Pats.

In 42 games with the Wheat Kings last winter, Hayes compiled a 2.68 goals against average and five shutouts.

"Andrew was an important player on some good hockey teams during his three years in Brandon," said Brandon coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon, in making Tuesday's announcement. "We thank him for his contributions and wish him well in the future."

On the ice, the Wheat Kings will welcome back 19-year old Scott Glennie at practice later today. The former first round NHL draft pick was returned to Brandon on Monday by the Dallas Stars. Glennie expects to be in the lineup Wednesday when the Wheat Kings travel to Moose Jaw to meet the Warriors.
