USHL Fall Classic Wrap Up – Day 3

Daniil Tarasov again led the way for the Ice scoring a pair of goals while Dan Cesarz collected three assists.  Goaltender Jon Gilles stopped all 26 shots he faced to record the shutout win.  Adam Erne and Brian Ferlin recorded power play goals while Peter Schneider also chipped in a goal for the Ice.

Tri-City Storm 5 vs. Des Moines Buccaneers 0
A flurry of offense and stingy defense resulted in a win for the Storm in their final contest of the Fall Classic.  Cody Murphy and Tucker Brockett scored goals in the second and Soren Jonzzon finished with two points (1g, 1a).  The Storm allowed just 13 shots on goal and goaltender Scott Diebold turned them all away to register the shutout.

Chicago Steel 2 vs. Green Bay Gamblers 4
It was a battle of special teams as all six of the goals scored were on the power play.  Despite just 15 shots on goal, Green Bay went 4-of-8 on the man advantage to gain the victory.  After Jay Camper scored for the Steel in the first period, Green Bay answered with goals by Mitch Witek and Andrew Welinski.  Gamblers forward Nolan LaPorte led all players with three points (1g, 2a) while Austin Czarnik also tallied a goal for Green Bay.  Michael Holland added a goal for Chicago.  Adam Wilcox made 26 saves for the Gamblers, earning the win.

Fargo Force 1 vs. Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 3
Cedar Rapids again took advantage of their chances scoring two power play goals in the first period on their way to 3-0-0 record at the Fall Classic.  Ryan McGrath and Stephen Collins tallied the special teams goals and Cason Hohmann added a goal in the third.  Brady Hjelle made 27 saves in net for the victory.  Tanner Kero scored the lone goal for Fargo with just five seconds remaining to spoil the shutout bid by the RoughRiders.

Youngstown Phantoms 4 vs. Sioux Falls Stampede 2
The Phantoms jumped out with two goals within the first five minutes of the contests and held on to win their first game of the Fall Classic.  J.T. Stenglein led Youngstown with three points (1g, 2a) and teammate Adam Berkle added two points (1g, 1a).  Dylan Margonari and Jiri Sekac converted on the power play for the Phantoms and goaltender Matt Green claimed the victory making 33 saves.  Connor Reilly and Bryan Moore each scored for the Stampede.

Muskegon Lumberjacks 4 vs. Dubuque Fighting Saints 1
Charlie Taft scored two goals for the Lumberjacks in the matchup of the USHL's two newest teams.  Mike Conderman also scored for Muskegon and goaltender Joel Vienneau made 26 saves to record the victory.  Matt DeBlouw added an empty net goal to seal the win.  Scott Wamsganz scored the lone goal for Dubuque.

Team USA 4 vs. Sioux City Musketeers 3
In the nightcap, Team USA jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Adam Reid (shorthanded) and Rocco Grimaldi (power play).  Max Gaede brought the Musketeers within one before a goal by Cole Bardreau again gave Team USA a two-goal lead.  Caleb Herbert added a goal for Sioux City.  Robbie Russo appeared to seal the game with an empty goal for Team USA, but the Musketeers never gave and Jordan Schmaltz scored with just 16 seconds left to give his club a chance.  Team USA held on to get their first win of the Fall Classic thanks to 39 saves by goaltender John Gibson.
