Goaltender Ian Curtis Clears Waivers

Press Release

Goaltender Ian Curtis has cleared waivers, and the team is currently discussing options with Curtis. The move leaves the Winterhawks with two goaltenders, 18-year-olds Mac Carruth and Keith Hamilton. Carruth is a seventh round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Curtis played two games this season, going 2-0 with a goals against average of 3.50 and save percentage of 90.9%. He joined the team during the 2008-09 season, and in 57 games with the Winterhawks over three seasons posted a record of 27-21-2-1, with a goals against average of 3.39 and 90.6% save percentage.

He also appeared in four playoff games last season, going 1-3 with a goals against average of 3.72 and 88.5% save percentage.

“Ian has done a great job since coming to Portland, and we are working hard to ensure that he continues his career playing hockey at an elite level, as there are currently several teams interested in his services,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. “In addition to being a very good goaltender, Ian has been a terrific leader in the locker room. However, we felt it was in our best interests to move forward with our younger goaltenders.”

In 80 career games over four seasons with the Winterhawks, Swift Current Broncos and Prince George Cougars, Curtis was 32-27-2-2 with a goals against average of 3.57 and 89.7% save percentage.
