USHL Honors - Week Four

Press Release

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the fourth week of the 2010-11 USHL regular season.

Congratulations to forward Caleb Herbert of the Sioux City Musketeers, named CCM Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Joakim Ryan of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Casey DeSmith of the Indiana Ice who earned honors as the Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Herbert tallied five points (3g, 2a) and a plus-two rating as the Musketeers won two games over the weekend and are in a tie for first place in the Western Conference. He scored two points (1g, 1a) plus had the deciding shootout goal in the 5-4 win over Des Moines on Friday. The recently turned 19-year-old then had a three-point game (2g, 1a) in the 6-1 win vs. Tri-City. It was the third straight multi-point game for the native of Bloomington, Minnesota. Herbert is playing in his first USHL season and currently leads the League with six goals this season.

Ryan dished out three assists and registered a plus-two rating to help the Saints win their first two home games of the season and extend their winning streak to five games. He assisted on two goals in the 4-1 win over Omaha on Friday as the Saints played their first game at the Mystique Ice Center. The Rumson, New Jersey native then added an assist in the 4-1 win against Youngstown on Saturday to extend his point streak to four games. It is the first USHL season for the 17-year-old defenseman.

DeSmith turned aside all 35 shots he faced in the 3-0 win over Omaha on Sunday. It was his second shutout of the season, which leads all USHL goaltenders. The 19-year-old from Rochester, New Hampshire is currently third overall in the League with a 1.67 goals-against-average. He has three wins this season, allowing just one goal total in those three contests, and has posted a .948 save percentage. DeSmith is playing in his second USHL season after winning 11 games for the Ice in 2009-10.
