Juniors’ Jean-François Bérubé Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Montreal Juniors netminder Jean-François Bérubé is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 23. Bérubé won two games with one shutout along with a 0.50 goals-against-average and .977 save percentage.

Bérubé recorded his first shutout of the season on Sunday blanking West Division rivals the Gatineau Olympiques 2-0. He made 26 saves and was named second star of the contest. His week also included a 16-save performance on Friday in a 4-1 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

Bérubé, a 19-year-old from Repentigny, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Juniors. The fourth round 2009 NHL Entry Draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings is tied for second in the QMJHL with 22 wins, and has a goals-against-average of 2.69 and save percentage of .897 in 33 games played.

Mark Segal of the Vancouver Giants and Alain Valiquette of the Sudbury Wolves were also considered for the award. Segal went 3-0-0-0 including a shutout win earning a 1.06 goals-against-average and a .953 save percentage, while Valiquette posted a 2-0-0-1 record with a 2.27 goals-against-average along with a .938 save percentage.
