STARS NAME SJHL AWARD NOMINEES

Press Release

The Battlefords Stars hockey club and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League have announced the three players that will represent the Stars in year-end awards at the end of the season. The announcement of what players have been nominated by the team was made this morning as the SJHL’s President Tour presented by Source Embroidery-Yorkton made a stop in North Battleford. The President’s Tour is a chance to promote the upcoming SJHL playoffs and to show off the Credit Union Cup and the SJHL Sask-Tel Showcase of Awards.

BATTLEFORDS STARS YEAR END AWARD NOMINEES

Most Outstanding Player – Blake Tatchell

There are many members of the Stars who would be deserving of this award, but the honor goes to the 1991 born forward from North Battleford. He is one of many talented forwards on a Stars team that is full of players with an offensive flair. Tatchell started the week second on the team in goals and points and first in assists. If the Stars bring home the Credit Union Cup this year, expect one of the reasons to be a huge playoffs from Tatchell.

Most Outstanding Defenceman – Woody Klassen

The 1991 born blueliner from Watrous has had a very solid season. Considered by some to be one of the best if not the best 1991 born defenceman in the league, Klassen has had a very solid season amongst a group of players who have been very good this year and will be again next year when he and three others return as 20 year olds.

Top Rookie – Kyle Hall

A solid two way player with great tremendous upside is a great way to describe the 1992 born forward from Assiniboia. Many scouts have come to watch the Stars play this year to take a look at Hall who was one of four players from the SJHL at the CJHL Top Prospects game. With 17 goals in 44 games this year, he has given the scouts a lot to talk about. If he stays in the Battlefords, Hall will certainly be a top 10 scorer and perhaps be an MVP candidate before his career is over.

These three players will join the nominees from the 11 other SJHL teams for year-end awards. Those awards will be announced shortly after the end of the regular-season.
