Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Sean Couturier of the Drummondville Voltigeurs is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 16. Couturier, who also just competed in the 2011 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game as captain of Team Cherry, had nine points including three goals and six assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-6 in four games.

Couturier led the Voltigeurs to three wins in four games and was named second star of the game in all three victories beginning last Wednesday night with a goal and two assists in a 4-0 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. The Voltigeurs would suffer a 7-4 loss to the Saint John Sea Dogs on Friday night with Couturier contributing two assists, before his goal and assist effort helped deliver a 3-2 overtime win over the top ranked Sea Dogs the following night. Couturier scored a goal and assist Sunday as the Voltigeurs wrapped up their Maritimes road swing with a 6-4 win over the Moncton Wildcats.

Couturier, an 18-year-old from Bathurst, NB, is currently eighth in QMJHL scoring with 62 points in 37 games. Eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Couturier is the second ranked player by NHL Central Scouting in their midterm rankings of North American skaters.

Fellow 2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect and Team Cherry member Nicklas Jensen of the Oshawa Generals was also considered for the award after scoring three goals and four assists for seven points in three games.
