All playoff matchups now known, Quesnel in, Prince George out

Press Release

Still clinging to playoff hopes heading into their final game of the regular season, the Prince George Spruce Kings took an early lead against the Westside Warriors but were done in by Kyle Singleton's natural hat trick.

Dustin Beairsto scored just over a minute into the game and the lead held up until midway through the second when Singleton scored his first. His second came just over five minutes later and he completed the hat trick early in the third.

Kyle Manlow got PG back within a goal but Brayden Sherbinin's unassisted tally sealed it for the Warriors.

Westside finishes fourth in the Interior and will play Trail in round one of the Fred Page Cup.

Mike Hammond ensured he'll be taking home the Brett Hull Trophy this season as the BCHL's top scorer as he tallied two assists in the Salmon Arm SilverBacks' 4-1 win over the Surrey Eagles. After Surrey's Brad McGowan scored early in the second to tie it 1-1, Hammond set up goals by Devin Muller and Brad Reid. Salmon Arm sits third but can finish second with a win Sunday which would match them up with Quesnel in round one.

Four second-period goals propelled the Penticton Vees to a 5-2 win over the visiting Quesnel Millionaires. The Mill's Brad Buckingham opened scoring but Joey Benik, Brendan O'Donnell, Myles McCauley and Curtis Loik rattled off four straight for the Vees. The teams could meet in the first round if Salmon Arm doesn't win Sunday.

The Powell River Kings finish the year 46-9-3-2 after a 4-1 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. The Kings never trailed, getting an opening goal from Bond Hawryluk and a second from Scott Renner before Kenney Morrison got the 'Dogs on the board. Matt Garbowsky and Jason Yee, with his first of the year, also scored. The 'Dogs play Langley in round one.

Most of the scoring in the Victoria Grizzlies 5-3 win over the Nanaimo Clippers came in the first period as the Grizz got goals from Kyle St. Denis, Mitch Labreche, Joel Lowry and Madison Dias while Myles Fitzgerald and Brett Hartskamp replied for the Clips. Wesley Myron scored for Victoria in the second and Fitzgerald scored again in the third. These two teams meet in round one.

The Merritt Centennials scored three times in the second to defeat the Trail Smoke Eaters 4-2. The Smokies' Logan Proulx and Cents' Jeff Jones exchanged goals in the first and Jones scored again in the second before Jordan Bauer tied it again. Jacob Reichert's goal was the winner and Max Vallis added insurance. Cents will play either Penticton or Salmon Arm in round one.
