Musketeers Name Larson as Head Coach/GM

Press Release

The Sioux City Musketeers announced that Brett Larson has been named as the team's Head Coach and General Manager. Larson, 38, joins the Musketeers after serving as the Associate Coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he helped Head Coach Scott Sandelin lead the Bulldogs to a 26-10-6 record this season and the school's first NCAA Championship.

Larson, a Duluth native, has served as the Associate Coach at UMD since the 2008-09 season after concluding a professional playing career that spanned 12 years. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to playing professionally, Larson had a four-year career at UMD, serving as the team's captain his senior year. The defenseman collected 67 points (24g, 43a) in 133 games in a Bulldogs uniform.

"This is a dream come true to be the head coach of the Sioux City Musketeers," said Larson. "While I'm sad to leave a great program at UMD, I couldn't have created a better environment to start my head coaching career. The United States Hockey League is a proven development path for elite hockey players and coaches, and I'm glad to continue the great tradition of Musketeer Hockey".

In choosing Larson as the team's ninth coach since 1979 from a pool of 70 applicants, President of Hockey Operations Craig Woodcroft said, "Brett brings a high octane brand of hockey to Sioux City. His teams have a reputation of being fast, offensive minded, and physical, evidenced by the championship team Brett helped to build in Duluth. We were impressed by his work ethic, passion, and knowledge of the game."

Brett will be formally introduced to the Sioux City Community during a Monday May 23rd Press Conference to be held at 3:00pm at the Sioux City Convention Center, immediately followed by a meet and greet for Musketeers Hockey fans that is open to the public.
