ENMAX CENTRIUM EXPANSION DETAILS

Red Deer, AB -- Westerner Park President, Michael Donlevy, in association with the Hon. Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, The City of Red Deer Mayor, Morris Flewwelling, and Red Deer County Mayor, Jim Wood announced today, during a press conference at the ENMAX Centrium, the total amount of funding secured for the plans for the ENMAX Centrium's expansion project.

Total grant funding for this $3.5 million project will come from the Province of Alberta’s Community Facility Enhancement Program ($1.75 million), The City of Red Deer ($1 million), and Red Deer County ($500,000). Westerner Park will make up any shortfalls in the total construction cost.

The upgrade includes 14 more luxury suites and an additional 1,000 seats added to the 6,000 seat ENMAX Centrium facility. The expansion will have significant economic impact on Central Alberta in attracting national, international and world events to Westerner Park.

Construction for the expansion plans is set to start in May of 2012 and be complete by October 2012.

With the Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club's bid to host the 2013 Memorial Cup, and the and new seating and suites to be in place by Fall 2012, Red Deer's chances of securing this prestigious event are greatly enhanced.

Special guests in attendance at the press conference were the Hon. Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, Morris Flewwelling, Mayor, The City of Red Deer, in addition to members of Red Deer’s City Council, Jim Wood, Mayor, Red Deer County, as well as the Hon. Mary-Anne Jablonski, Minister of Seniors and Community Support and MLA, Red Deer North, the Hon. Luke Ouellette, Minister of Transportation and MLA, Innisfail/Sylvan Lake, and Cal Dallas, MLA, Red Deer South.

Also in attendance were Brent Sutter, Owner/President, Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club as well as Michael Donlevy, President, Westerner Park, Kent Olsen, Vice-President, Westerner Park, John Harms, Chief Executive Officer & General Manager, Westerner Park as well as Westerner Park Life Directors and past Board of Directors.
