Olkinuora commits to the University of Denver

Sioux Falls, SD—The Sioux Falls Stampede are proud to announce that goaltender Juho Olkinuora has committed to the University of Denver for the upcoming 2011-12 season. He becomes the 18th player from the 2010-11 team to commit to a Division I program.

The Helsinki, Finland native went 14-13-0 with a 2.78 GAA and a .900 save percentage in 27 games this season. He helped the Stampede advance to the Western Conference Finals, going 2-3 with a 2.70 GAA and a .911 save percentage in the playoffs.

The University of Denver is located in Denver, Colorado and the Pioneers are members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). They are coming off a 25-12-5 season that saw them advance to the NCAA Midwest Regional Final before falling to North Dakota. George Gwozdecky is the head coach and has won well over 500 career games as a collegiate coach.

Former Stampede players Pat Mullen (2004-05) and Brandon Vossberg (2003-04) have recently played at Denver as well.

The Stampede are making preparations for the upcoming 2011-12 season. Players will report at the end of August for training camp. The USHL schedule for the upcoming season is expected to be released in a few weeks.
