North Stars make pair of deals

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars of the Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that the club has made some changes to their roster in a pair of separate deals.

The first move saw the team exchange the Hockey Canada playing rights of forward Brendan Burge sending them to the Weyburn Red Wings of the Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League in return for the rights to former North Stars defenceman Taylor Desserre.

Thunder Bay also secured the Hockey Canada playing rights of forward Brandon Briere from the Kelowna Chiefs of the Kootenay International Jr. Hockey League.

The six-foot-three-inch Desserre, who hails from Atikokan, Ont., will be entering his final season of Jr. hockey. In 71 games previously with the Stars the defenceman has accumulated 13 points and 103 penalty minutes.

Burge recorded 18 points in as many games with Thunder Bay this past season.

In Briere, the North Stars pick up a 19-year-old forward who hails from Salmon Arm, B.C.

He had recorded 11 goals and 34 assists in 69 career KIJHL contests.
