Nowick stars on opening weekend, takes first POW nod of the season

Vernon Vipers forward Darren Nowick has been named the British Columbia Hockey League Player of the Week award for the Week for the week ending Sept. 25 the league announced Monday.

The Long Beach, Calif. native was a major factor in the Vipers' 2-0 start to the season as he scored Vernon's first goal of the season just 31 seconds into Friday's game and later added an assist. He followed that up another goal and an assist again on Saturday. Nowick was named 1st Star in both games and was tied for the league lead in scoring after the weekend.

Honourable mentions this week go to Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Steven Iacobellis (two games, 2G, 2A, two 3rd Stars), Prince George Spruce Kings forward Leo Fitzgerald (two games, 3G, 1A, 2nd Star) and Langley forward Mario Puskarich (two games, 3G, two 2nd Stars).
