Riders Defenseman Headed to UMass-Lowell

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Greg Amlong will play collegiate hockey next season at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

The second-year USHL defenseman was recently named the USHL Defensive Player of the Week after collecting three points (2g, 1a) during a three-game road trip for the RoughRiders. His two goals were both scored shorthanded. Amlong has collected six points (2g, 4a) and a plus-five rating through seven games this season. Last season, he recorded 13 points (1g, 12a) in 45 regular season games for the RoughRiders and then posted a plus-three rating with one assist in eight playoff contests. The 19-year-old is a native of O’Fallon, Missouri.

Amlong’s teammate Ryan McGrath is also committed to attend to UMass-Lowell, which is the alma mater of their head coach, Mark Carlson.

The University of Massachusetts-Lowell is a member of Hockey East and has 11 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Derek Arnold (Waterloo Black Hawks), Tyler Brickler (Sioux City Musketeers), Joe Caveney (Sioux City Musketeers), Mike Conderman (Muskegon Lumberjacks), William Eiserman (Tri-City Storm), Dan Furlong (Sioux Falls Stampede), Josh Holmstrom (Sioux Falls Stampede), Zack Kamrass (Sioux Falls Stampede), Micki Mihailovich (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Chad Ruhwedel (Sioux Falls Stampede), and Jake Suter (Sioux City Musketeers).
