BRANDON WHEAT KINGS: Introduce Vintage Jersey

Press Release

Brandon, MB. -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat kings have unveiled their new Vintage Jerseys.

Two years in the making, this marks the second time in three years that the Wheat Kings have unveiled a special jersey. In addition to their regular home and away sweaters, the WHL club introduced a Third Jersey in 2010.

Designed by Reebok, the jersey's primary color is the team's current recognizable Sunflower Gold, with second colors black and white.

The Wheat Kings will debut the new Vintage Jerseys Friday night at Westman Communications Group Place when they kick off a home and home series with the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Jersey's Primary front crest is the vintage style logo that features the capital letter "B", a banner containing the text Wheat Kings and a traditional wheat sheaf in the center.

The logo is designed after the one worn by the 1948-49 Wheat Kings, who were the first of five Brandon teams to compete for the Memorial Cup Championship.

The Vintage Jerseys feature a traditional lace-up collar with the BWK shield, that is currently featured as the primary crest on the hockey club's Gold Third Jersey, as the secondary (shoulder patch) logo.

"Vintage Jerseys have proven to be very popular among fans in both the National Hockey League and WHL," says Wheat Kings' general manager Kelly McCrimmon. "We're fortunate in that we have the ability to draw on our storied tradition in recognizing the original '49 Wheat Kings' jersey."

All of the elements going into the creative of the new Vintage jersey provides the perfect mixture of the rich tradition and history of the Wheat Kings, its players, and its legacy blended together resulting in a brand new contemporary jersey.

In addition to Friday night, the club plans to wear the jerseys at all Friday night home games in December including the following:

1. Friday, December 2nd vs. Red Deer Rebels
2. Friday, December 16th vs. Kamloops Blazers
3. Friday, December 30th vs. Edmonton Oil Kings

The '49 Wheat Kings won both the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and Western Canada titles before losing out to the Montreal Royals in the Memorial Cup final. Brandon also competed for the Memorial Cup in 1979, 1995, 1996 and 2010.

Replicas of the club's new Vintage style jerseys will be available to purchase at Friday's game, with two locations inside Westman Place - the souvenir shop outside the east main entrance as well as at the south end of the concourse.
