Ice Captain Commits to Quinnipiac University

The Indiana Ice announced that defenseman Alex Barron has committed to play collegiate hockey at Quinnipiac University beginning next season.

Barron is in his second USHL season with the Ice and has put up 11 points (1g, 10a) in 17 games this season and leads the team with a plus-11 rating. He is tied for fourth among League defensemen in scoring while ranking tied for second with 10 assists. The 20-year-old from Glendora, California was named captain of the Ice this season. Barron scored his first career USHL goal in the 6-2 win vs. Tri-City on October 21st. Last season, he collected 14 assists and a plus-24 rating in 51 games for the Ice.

Barron will see a familiar face when he sets foot on the Quinnipiac University campus as his brother, Loren Barron, is a defenseman on the Bobcats roster. Loren spent the 2008-09 season in the USHL with the Indiana Ice and helped them capture their first-ever Clark Cup title.

Youngstown Phantoms forward Sam Anas is also committed to play hockey at the school following his USHL career. Quinnipiac University is a member of the ECAC and has six USHL alumni on the roster this season; Ben Arnt (Omaha Lancers), Loren Barron (Indiana Ice), Mike Dalhuisen (Chicago Steel/Lincoln Stars), Eric Hartzell (Sioux Falls Stampede), Spencer Heichman (Sioux City Musketeers), and Cory Hibbeler (Lincoln Stars).
