SILVERTIPS ACQUIRE CARON FROM BLAZERS

Press Release

EVERETT, WA – Everett Silvertips Vice President/General Manager Doug Soetaert today announced that the club has acquired veteran defenseman Josh Caron from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2014 WHL Draft. Their fourth trade in the past three weeks fills the Silvertips’ vacant 20-year-old spot, as Caron joins forward Josh Birkholz and defenseman Brennan Yadlowski as the club’s contingent of 1991-born players.

Caron has spent his entire WHL career in Kamloops, appearing in 128 games with the Blazers since breaking into the league in 2008-09. Although undrafted, he signed a free agent contract with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild after attending training camp with the club in 2010. Measuring in at 6-4 and 212 pounds, Caron instantly becomes the biggest player on Everett’s roster.

A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Caron has already tied his career high with six points this season (0g/6a) and sports a plus/minus rating of +9 in 20 games. He has also racked up 88 penalty minutes (including nine fighting majors) so far this year, placing him second only to Everett’s Jesse Mychan among all WHL players in that category. Originally a third-round pick (#52 overall) of the Blazers in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, Caron has totaled 15 points (2g/13a), 375 penalty minutes and a +10 rating in his WHL career.
