Americans’ Brendan Shinnimin Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Brendan Shinnimin of the Tri-City Americans is the CHL Player of the Week after recording an incredible 19 points in four games scoring 11 goals and eight assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-9 for the week ending February 26.

Shinnimin led the Americans to four straight wins helping the club climb to the top of the WHL’s Western Conference Standings in a week he began with a career-high six-point game on Tuesday with three goals including the game-winner and three assists as first star of a 7-2 win over the Everett Silvertips. Shinnimin followed that up with back-to-back four-point games including another hat-trick performance against the Silvertips on Friday night adding an assist as first star of a 4-2 win before scoring once and adding three assists on Saturday in a 7-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs. He finished his week with a career-high four-goal game including the game-winner plus one assist for five points as first star of a 5-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Shinnimin, a 21-year-old from Winnipeg, MB, is playing in his fourth full WHL season with the Americans. He currently leads the WHL and CHL in scoring with 115 points including 52 goals and 63 assists in 59 games played.

Also considered for the award this week was Mikhail Grigorenko of the Quebec Remparts who scored five goals and one assist for six points in two games, while Andrew Agozzino of the Niagara IceDogs recorded eight assists in three games.
