Majors’ Brandon Maxwell Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Brandon Maxwell of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 26 after winning four games including one shutout with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .974.

Maxwell backstopped the Majors to four straight wins stopping 147 shots including 29 on Family Day Monday as third star of a 3-1 win over the Sudbury Wolves. On Friday night his 43-save performance earned him first star honours as the Majors edged the OHL’s Eastern Conference leading Niagara IceDogs 3-2. Maxwell earned first star honours again on Saturday night with 38 saves in a 2-1 win over the Barrie Colts, and wrapped up his week recording his third shutout of the season with 37 saves against the Erie Otters including 21 in the third period as second star of the 6-0 victory.

Maxwell, a 20-year-old from Cambridge, ON, is playing in his third OHL season. Since being acquired by the Majors from the Sting midway through the season he has posted an 11-8-0-1 record with two shutouts and a goals-against-average of 2.76 and save percentage of .926. The Majors are currently ranked in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 63 points.

Also considered for the award was Matt Hewitt of the Regina Pats who went 2-0-0-1 with a 1.30 goals-against-average and a .961 save percentage. Christopher Gibson of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens went 2-0-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .945 save percentage.
