Ben Matthews Committs to UAA Seawolves

Press Release

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) would like to announce the NCAA Division I commitment of Ben Matthews to the University of Alaska Anchorage beginning with the 2012-13 season.

Ben is very deserving of this, said Spruce Kings General Manager, Mike Hawes. As an organization, we are very excited and happy that he will get to continue his hockey career at an outstanding school. Ben played a huge role for us last season on and off the ice. We wish him all the best as he takes the next step in his hockey career and his education.

Acquired in an off-season trade, Matthews was a stalwart on the blueline and the team's captain during the 2011-12 season. Matthews played in every game finishing with 6 goals and 17 assists and 84 minutes in penalties.

Ben Matthews showed true character and leadership on and off the ice and will be a true asset to his hometown NCAA hockey program, the UAA Seawolves in the WCHA.
