Brookings Blizzard name Cory Laylin head coach

Press Release

The Brookings Blizzard, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are proud to announce the hiring of Cory Laylin as their new head hockey coach.

Laylin was most recently the head coach of the Keltern Hockey Club which was part of the Italian A2 Professional Hockey League. Laylin will be replacing Doc Delcastillo who served as head coach for the previous three seasons.

“There were many very qualified candidates for this position,” said Blizzard President and Co-owner Chris Canavati, “but what Cory brings to the table was very impressive. We feel that not only will he be able to help develop our players and move them to the next stages of their careers, but the city of Brookings is getting an excellent role-model and a great citizen.”

Laylin played college hockey at the University of Minnesota where he lead his team to the 1992 NCAA national championship game. After completing his college career he played professionally for 16 seasons in various European leagues.

“I am excited about the opportunity that lies ahead in Brookings. The goal is to establish our program as a top NAHL contender every year. My goal is to instill the passion and know that our players experience with the Blizzard will be a spring board to success for the rest of their lives,” said newly hired Laylin.

Laylin will be focused on player development and recruiting with the Blizzard, but will also be a very active member in the community and serve as an integral part of the Blizzard’s transition into Brookings.

Laylin will be the organization's fourth head coach but the first for the Brookings Blizzard.
