HAMPTON COMMITS TO RPI

Press Release

Oakville Blades defenceman Phil Hampton (photo credit - Brian Watts/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers beginning with the 2012-13 ECAC season.

One of the most respected blueliners in the OJHL, the 1992-born Hampton joined the Blades in 2010 from the Minor Oaks Hockey Association in Oakville, after playing six games as an affiliate member of the Burlington Cougars the previous season. The 6', 195 lbs. rearguard quickly established his credentials as a promising junior player.

“Our entire organization is thrilled that Phil has earned this opportunity through his work on the ice and in the classroom,” said Blades president Carlo Coccimiglio. “He has been a leader on the ice and a great teammate to all the Blades. His future is very bright.”

Hampton has twice been selected as a member of Team Canada East for the World Junior 'A' Challenge, winning back-to-back silver medals at the event, while captaining the squad at this past year's tourney.

In 84 regular-season games over two years with the Blades, Hampton notched nine goals and thirty-seven points. His smooth skating and natural hockey IQ made him a valuable asset in virtually any situation on the ice.

Hampton is also an excellent student and had started his engineering studies on a part-time basis at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Congratulations to Phil and best of luck with both his athletic and scholastic futures!
