Top Pick Brett Hargrave Commits To Sting

Press Release

Sarnia, ON – Sarnia Sting Head Coach and General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Brett Hargrave to an OHL Contract and Education Package.

“It is an exciting day for both the Sarnia Sting organization and the Hargrave family. Our entire scouting staff was extremely high on Brett heading into the draft. His combination of size and his skill set are rare for a player his age. Brett moved to play in the GTHL and excelled playing with the top Minor Midget team in the Province. Again we are thrilled to have Brett and his family commit to both the Sarnia Sting and the Ontario Hockey League” commented Jacques Beaulieu.

Ontario Hockey League Central Scouting offers the following scouting report of Brett.

“Brett has a very heavy shot and he likes to shoot the puck in the offensive zone. He is not afraid to use his size to his advantage, especially in front of the net on the PP. He has such good hand eye coordination and he is not afraid of the abuse in front of the net. Brett has a very good understanding of the game this allows him to find open ice and be in good shooting position to score goals.”

Beaulieu adds, “We are extremely pleased to have a commitment from Brett and his family to the Sarnia Sting and the Ontario Hockey League. We feel Brett is a pro-caliber player with a bright future in hockey. As well, in signing this agreement should he chose an alternate route he now has an Ontario Hockey League Scholarship available to him. We look forward to developing Brett both as a hockey player and as an individual during his time with the Sarnia Sting.”

Last season with the Mississauga Rebels Hargrave was a key component to the Rebels capturing the OHL Cup Championship. In 7 OHL Cup games Hargrave scored 6 goals en route to the title.
