2012-13 OHL Regular Season Schedule

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the regular season schedule of games for 2012-13.

The 680-game OHL regular season opens on Thursday September 20, 2012, with four games including the Bobby Orr Trophy winners the Niagara IceDogs hosting the Erie Otters at 7:00 pm, along with a rematch of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals when the Barrie Colts visit the Ottawa 67’s at 7:00 pm in their new home at Scotiabank Place.  Opening night also includes an East Division rivalry between the Oshawa Generals and the host Peterborough Petes at 7:05 pm, and a Western Conference battle between the Owen Sound Attack and the host Windsor Spitfires at 7:05 pm.

The season continues on Friday September 21, 2012, when the remaining 12 teams open their schedule including the Robertson Cup Champion London Knights when they host the Erie Otters at 7:30 pm in one of eight games scheduled that evening.  The Knights will host the IceDogs in a rematch of the 2012 Rogers OHL Championship Series on Friday December 7, 2012, with their second contest of the season slated for Sunday February 17, 2013, in St. Catharines.

Other highlights include December 29, 2012, where four teams are listed as part of the preliminary schedule for the 2012 Hockeytown Winter Festival at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, featuring the Saginaw Spirit and the Windsor Spitfires at 1:00 pm followed by the Plymouth Whalers and the London Knights at 5:00 pm.

The 2012 SUBWAY Super Series takes place in OHL markets on Thursday November 8, 2012, hosted by the Guelph Storm, followed by Monday November 12, 2012, hosted by the Sarnia Sting.  The 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is scheduled for Wednesday January 16, 2013, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The 2012-13 regular season wraps up on Sunday March 17, 2013, before the league’s top 16 teams will battle for the Robertson Cup in the 2013 OHL Playoffs.  The OHL Champion will then travel to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, for the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup May 17-26 where they will compete against the host Saskatoon Blades as well as the champions from the Western Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in the 95th edition of the prestigious national championship.

The Ontario Hockey League continues the tradition of being primarily a weekend league in order to accommodate the student athlete with 86% (585) of games scheduled between Thursday and Sunday. Friday continues to be the busiest night during the season with 203 games scheduled, followed by 158 on Saturday.
