Abou-Assaly Signs with 67's

Press Release

June 20, 2012 (Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67's today announced the signing of their 3rd round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection Draft, 16-year-old forward Andrew Abou-Assaly. The Orleans native led the AAA Ottawa Junior 67's Minor Midget team to the ODMHA Championship last season, scoring 34 goals and 44 assists in 38 games.

"Andrew is a skilled and smart hockey player and we're excited to have him signed and on our team," said Head Coach and General Manager Chris Byrne. "We know Andrew had options and we're very pleased he chose to work with us to help him reach his goals, on and off the ice."

Abou-Asslay, a grade 10 student with a 90% average at Ashbury College, had been projected as a first-rounder heading into last April's OHL draft, but there were concerns he might choose an NCAA scholorship, possibly at an Ivy League School, over the OHL.

"Academics are very important to me and so is hockey," said Abou-Assaly. "With the 67's, I'll be able to continue my education at Ashbury and my development as player at the highest level of junior hockey in the world. At the end of the day, that's why I chose the 67's. I'm looking forward to training camp and excited about competing for a spot on the roster."
