The Alberta Junior Hockey League today unveiled the complete league schedule for the 2012 Exhibition Season and 2012-2013 Regular Season. The AJHL will officially open its 49th regular season on Friday, September 7th while the 49-game pre-season will commence on Tuesday, August 21st.
The 2012 Exhibition Season will be filled with a variety of competition and venues. The Drayton Valley Thunder and Grande Prairie Storm will host an exhibition game in Edson, AB on August 26th. The Lloydminster Bobcats and Battlefords North Stars will also compete away from home with a game in Wainwright, AB on September 2nd. Five AJHL teams are scheduled to take part in a mini tournament from August 30th - September 1st in Okotoks, AB.
The Brooks Bandits, Lloydminster Bobcats, Drumheller Dragons and Grande Prairie Storm will continue the tradition of competing in pre-season games against teams from the BCHL and SJHL. The Bonnyville Pontiacs have scheduled two exhibition games with Portage College of the ACAC.
The 2012-2013 AJHL regular season will consist of 16 teams playing an unbalanced schedule of 60 games apiece. The 480 game season concludes on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013.
The Whitecourt Wolverines will compete in the AJHL North Division, replacing the St Albert Steel and maintaining a balance of eight teams per division in 2012-2013. The newest member of the AJHL will play out of the recently renovated Scott Safety Centre in Whitecourt.
From September 27th - 29th, 2012, the 6th Annual AJHL Showcase Weekend will return to the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Each team will play one home game and one road game during the event, which will be included in League Standings.
Two regular season games will be held outside of AJHL communities. The Drumheller Dragons will host the Olds Grizzlys on October 30th, 2012 in Hanna, AB. The Spruce Grove Saints and Calgary Mustangs will meet in Stony Plain, AB on November 17th, 2012.
The 2012 World Junior A Challenge and CJHL Prospects Event will be held from November 5 - 11, 2012 in Yarmouth, NS. The event provides a unique opportunity for CJHL stars to showcase their talent to an unprecedented audience of scouts from across North America.
On November 17th, 2012, the 2012 AJHL Semi-Annual Meeting will take place in Red Deer, Alberta. The AJHL will break for the Holiday Season from December 23nd - 29th, 2012. AJHL regular season action will continue on January 2nd, 2013 when the Fort McMurray Oil Barons host the Drumheller Dragons.
As per Hockey Canada Regulations, the CJHL trade deadline is January 10th, 2013.
Hockey Day in Canada is heading west to Lloydminster for its 13th annual broadcast. The Lloydminster Bobcats and Bonnyville Pontiacs will take part in a regular season game during the 2013 Hockey Day in Canada event in Lloydminster on February 9th, 2013.
The 2013 Alberta Junior Hockey League Playoffs will kick off on March 5th, 2013. Each division will playoff to determine a divisional champion at the conclusion of Round Three. The North Division Champion and the South Division Champion will then compete in the League Final.
The inaugural Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup will be held from April 26th - May 5th, 2013 in Nanaimo, BC. The 2013 RBC Cup will take place from May 11th - 19th, 2013 in Summerside, PEI.
