BIG FM teams up with Oil Capitals

Press Release

In a joint announcement made today, the Virden Oil Capitals of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League have partnered with Interlake Broadcast Group [BIG FM] to carry all 60 games of the 2012-13 regular season, along with all playoff games.

“We know the importance of the game broadcasts in this community, and we’re fortunate to have a very prominent voice of the league right here in Westman” said Oil Caps President, Dale Lewis. “Ray Walker has been associated with the league for close to 10 years, and brings a great deal of enthusiasm and experience for our new franchise”.

BIG FM [www.bigfm.ca] began broadcasting the Selkirk Steelers in the 2005 season through to 2010, when the station re-located to western Manitoba. For the last two seasons, Walker called games for the Swan Valley Stampeders and Waywayseecappo Wolverines. “It’s fantastic to have a home team again” said Walker, “I’m thrilled to bring the games to Oil Caps fans, either on the road, or when they can’t get a ticket” he added.

Joining Walker on the game broadcasts most nights will be former MJHL coach and Winnipeg Jet, Ray Neufeld. Walker and Neufeld are no strangers in the booth together having spent 3 seasons doing games in Selkirk. The two were also TV broadcast partners for the World U-17 Hockey Championship in 2010 in Winnipeg.

The full game schedule for the Virden Oil Capitals will be released by the league, in the next few weeks.
