The Battlefords North Stars completed a player transaction acquiring the CJHL rights to Brandon Long from the Trail Smoke Eaters in the BCHL, in exchange for future considerations. Brandon will report for day one of training camp scheduled to begin on August 31st, as the North Stars hit the ice for the 2012/13 season.
During the 2011/12 BCHL season, Long was utilized in a variety of roles with the Smoke Eaters. The 6’0, 185 lb right shot forward lead the team in rookie scoring with 8 goals and 13 assists in 52 games played. Before his time in the BCHL, Long served as team captain of the Calgary Midget AAA Flames where he averaged a point per game and earned a spot in the AMHL All-star game. Long competed for two seasons in the competitive AMHL as a member of the Calgary Flames.
The North Stars will open Main Camp August 31, 2012, with the first home exhibition game scheduled for September 8 at 7:30, when the Melfort Mustangs visit the Civic Center.
