Indiana Ice defenseman Joe Fiala has committed to play college hockey at Quinnipiac University following his USHL career.
Fiala put up eight points (2g, 6a) and a plus-nine rating in 56 games for the Ice during the 2011-12 regular season. He scored all his points and posted a plus-nine over his final 25 games of the year. The defenseman’s first USHL career goal came in a 5-3 win vs. Muskegon on January 28th. Fiala added two points (1g, 1a) and earned a plus-four rating in six playoff contests.
The 19-year-old native of Verona, Wisconsin has played parts of three seasons in the USHL as he was a member of Team USA for two seasons (2009-11) in which he appeared in 40 games.
Three other USHL players from the 2011-12 season have also committed to Quinnipiac University – Alex Barron (Waterloo Black Hawks/Indiana Ice), Sam Anas (Youngstown Phantoms), and Soren Jonzzon (Youngstown Phantoms/Tri-City Storm).
Quinnipiac University is a member of the ECAC and has six USHL alumni on the Bobcats roster; Ben Arnt (Omaha Lancers), Loren Barron (Indiana Ice), Mike Dalhuisen (Lincoln Stars), Eric Hartzell (Sioux Falls Stampede), Cory Hibbeler (Lincoln Stars), and Jordan Samuels-Thomas (Waterloo Black Hawks).
