Press Release
The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League,
Raymond Bolduc, suspended today Raphaël Corriveau of the Cape Breton
Screaming Eagles for 3 games. The decision was taken following an
incident that occurred on October 21 against the Rimouski Océanic. Here
is the rationale that led to the decision:
The Rimouski
goaltender had the puck behind his net and passed the puck to the player
on the boards, at the height of the face off circle
The player
at fault was in a forecheck position in front of the net, turned towards
his opponent, took a stride and headed towards him.
The opponent, after receiving the pass, headed towards the middle of the zone and made a pass to his teammate.
Immediately following the pass, the player at fault hit him on the head.
The opponent was only able to see the player at fault at the last moment and braked slightly.
The player at fault was propelled upward, struck his opponent and hit him on the head.
On the video we can see that the player at fault extended his arm on impact.
The opponent was injured.
The player at fault was at his first offense.
The
Director of Player Safety took this decision after having viewed video
of the incident, considered the officials report, spoken to the players
and organizations involved and consulted with his senior advisor,
Sébastien Bordeleau.
