Harry Mahood Joins Bulls Coaching Staff

Press Release

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced today (Wednesday) that Harry Mahood has joined the club as an Assistant Coach.

Mahood served as an Assistant Coach with the rival Topeka RoadRunners 2009-2010, 2010-2011, and as Associate Head Coach in the 2011-2012 season. During his tenure behind the bench, the RoadRunners captured two South Division titles, hosted the Robertson Cup and won the President’s Cup in 2011. Mahood developed and graduated nearly 40 players to the NCAA.

“To have his experience, passion for hockey to help develop and move players, as well as to join our staff with Rocky (Russo), Austin (Sutter) and myself works out perfectly for us,” said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. “At the end of the day, the biggest thing we want to do is win and if we can surround ourselves with good coaches and players then that’s what’s going to get us to the Robertson Cup.”

Mahood said he is thrilled to join such an outstanding young program like the Bulls, and the success they have enjoyed in the first three years of the franchise.

“My first impression is passion and enthusiasm that I see from every area of the organization from ownership to staff, players and fans,” Mahood said. “It’s quite extraordinary the program that has been built here. It’s unbelievable.”

Mahood said he is a professional hockey coach who believes he can help young players improve their skills on the ice.

“It’s a very fast paced game and after studying the Bulls for quite some time you want to help encourage it,” he said. “I have a lot of thoughts of how to continue to build that up tempo pace game that involves as many players as you can in the attacks. I look forward to bringing my experiences especially from an international level coaching, where everyone works really hard in a group of five and that can really do damage on the attack.”

Mahood will join Williams working with the forwards,  while Rocky Russo will continue his work with the defenseman, and Austin Sutter will be available for the home games.

“Nothing changes with us as it’s just another set of eyes,” he said. “It’s an opportunity to look at things a little differently. For Rocky and I, we have been looking at it the same way for the last two years, so both of us will be able to learn from Harry on a different perspective and way to do things.”
