Iron Rangers' Karakas named Pizza Hut player of the week

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Luke Karakas of the Minnesota Iron Rangers has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period ending Nov. 25.

In two games this past week the 19-year-old forward, who hails from Green Bay, Wis., registered five points helping the Iron Rangers skate to a pair of home ice victories over the Dryden Ice Dogs.
Karakas began by scoring once and dishing out two assists, including setting up the game-winner, in a 5-2 triumph over the Ice Dogs last Monday.

He then tacked on another tally and added a helper in a 7-3 victory against Dryden this past Tuesday.
Karakas is presently riding a modest four-game point streak registering four goals and five assists in that span helping raise his season point total to 20, which ties him for 15th overall in SIJHL offensive production.
Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Merritt Rysavy, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Kris Kellaway, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Tyson Holder, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs and Jon Ringstad, (D) Duluth Clydesdales.

Of note, the Minnesota Wilderness did not play this past week and thus did not have a nominee.

At the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season, the SIJHL’s top performer will be presented the league’s Pizza Hut player of the year award.
