Lakers announce additonal player signings

Press Release

FORT FRANCES – The Fort Frances Lakers of the SIJHL have announced a trio of player signings following their three-day prospects camp held over the weekend.

Back for a second season with the Lakers are forwards Mason Meyer and Hunter Leishman while local defenceman Brandon Sinclair has also be signed for the 2013-14 campaign.

"Mason was our top first-year player last season even though he missed some time to a broken hand," offered Fort Frances head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan. "He will be a player we will look to be a top 6 forward and produce for us consistently and looked very good along side fellow signee and International Falls native Lucas Debenedet this past weekend."

Strachan was also impressed with Leishman's efforts at the camp coming of a solid rookie season.

"Hunter returns after playing as a 16-year-old and he has worked hard to get himself in great shape and had a very good camp," stated Strachan. "We look for Hunter to continue to grow as a hockey player and define his role as a power forward with the team. He has improved his speed which will help him throughout the year."

New signee Sinclair also caught the eye of the Lakers bench boss and GM.

"Brandon looked strong in camp and he is a very heads up player that can add some offense from the point position,"says Strachan. "Over the weekend it was good to see him playing aggressive defensively and working hard, he was one of the top defenseman in camp and we feel he can contribute as a regular in our line up night after night."

Next up for the organization, off the ice, will be the Lakers supper at the bass tournament on Friday night.

The Lakers will also be at the Emo Fair with our food booth and have season tickets and 400 club tickets available.

On the ice the club's main camp runs Aug. 29-31 as they look to continue adding veteran players along with a few more newcomers to the roster before their main camp opens.
