Tigers seek to honor Bob Ridley in new event centre

Medicine Hat, AB – Medicine Hat Tigers are pleased to announce they will formally request Medicine Hat City Council to name the broadcast/media booth in the new regional event centre after legendary Tigers’ play-by-play broadcaster, Bob Ridley.

In the tradition of naming broadcast/media booths after great play-by-play announcers such as Foster Hewitt in Toronto and Ed Whalen in Calgary, the Tigers will seek approval from City Council to grant this esteemed honor on Bob at the next city council meeting.

Ridley, a native of Drumheller, AB is entering his 44th year of calling Tigers' hockey. Bob was the recipient of the 1995 Medicine Hat Civic Recognition Sports Award and was also inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame as Bell Memorial Award winner in 2000. He won the Alberta Centennial award in 2005 in recognition of accomplishments and a solid commitment to making Alberta a better place to live. Bob was awarded the 2006 WHL Distinguished Service Award for his dedication to the Tigers and Western Hockey League. Two years ago, Bob also received the RTNDA News Directors award. He has spent the past 50 years in the broadcast industry and has been a resident of Medicine Hat since 1968. Since arriving in Medicine Hat, Bob has been with CHAT 94.5 FM where he serves as sports director. In his younger days, Bob was a very competitive racquetball player and canoe racer.

“With the new event centre now officially underway, our entire organization would like to see the broadcast/media booth in the new facility named after Bob Ridley for his tremendous coverage of Tigers Hockey for the past 43 years,” stated Tigers’ president Darrell Maser.

Bob has spent a lifetime covering and promoting sports in Medicine Hat. Medicine Hat Tigers truly hope the City of Medicine Hat will bestow this prestigious honor on a very worthy recipient, Mr. Bob Ridley.
