Oil Kings sign Robertson, Patterson

Press Release

Edmonton, AB — The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed forward Tyler Robertson and defenceman Chance Patterson, Oil Kings General Manager Randy Hansch announced Friday.

Robertson, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound left wing, has eight goals and 16 points in 27 games this season as a rookie with the Spruce Grove Saints in the AJHL. The Sherwood Park native was originally listed by the Oil Kings in September of 2011.

“Tyler’s an honest two-way player that’s very responsible,” Hansch said. “We’re certainly ex cited to have the opportunity for Tyler to move forward with us. He’s a player that’s really starting to grow into his game, and now he’ll have the experience to come in and learn on and off the ice about being an Oil King along with continuing his development in our program.”

The 17-year-old Robertson will join the Oil Kings for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.

Prior to the Christmas Break, the Oil Kings also inked Patterson, the team’s fifth round pick, 107th overall, in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

The 16-year-old blueliner from Foam Lake, SK made his WHL debut Sunday, December 15 against the Saskatoon Blades and will serve as an Affiliate Player over the school holidays.

“This is an opportunity for Chance to come in and gain some experience. He’s a good-sized defenceman who plays a solid defensive game,” Hansch said of the 6-foot-2, 183-pounder. “With him coming in to join us over the Christmas break, it’s a good chance for him to gain some experience and move on with his development when he goes back to join the Saskatoon Blazers.”
