Stars Defenseman Commits to Northeastern University

Lincoln Stars defenseman Dax Lauwers has committed to play college hockey at Northeastern University next season.

Lauwers played all 60 regular season games for the Stars this season and dished out five assists while collecting 87 penalty minutes. The 20-year-old also served as team captain. During the playoffs, he appeared in all eight games for Lincoln and scored his first USHL career goal on April 21st during a 3-2 victory over Fargo in Game Two of a second-round playoff series.

The 6-3, 220-pound Lauwers is a native of Anchorage Alaska. He returned to the USHL this season after spending the 2010-11 campaign playing college hockey at Army. Lauwers made his USHL debut during the 2009-10 season and collected four assists in 54 games for the Lincoln Stars.

Lauwers is joined by Stars teammate Zach Aston-Reese who is also committed to play hockey at Northeastern University. Three other USHL players from this season are also committed to attending the school; Cameron Darcy (Team USA), Ryan Belonger (Youngstown Phantoms), and Mike Gunn (Youngstown Phantoms).

Northeastern University is a member of Hockey East and had 12 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Anthony Bitetto (Indiana Ice), Justin Daniels (Sioux City Musketeers), Drew Daniels (Sioux City Musketeers), Luke Eibler (Youngstown Phantoms), Bryan Mountain (Des Moines Buccaneers), Steve Quailer (Sioux City Musketeers), Zak Stone (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Alex Tuckerman (Sioux City Musketeers), Garrett Vermeersch (Lincoln/Cedar Rapids), Robbie Vrolyk (Sioux Falls Stampede), Clay Witt (Sioux Falls Stampede), and Ludwig Karlsson (Green Bay Gamblers).
