ROYALS SIGN PAIR OF TELUS CUP CHAMPIONS

Press Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that the club has signed defenceman Kolton Dixon and forward Logan Fisher to Western Hockey League Standard Players’ Agreements.

Fisher and Dixon were each members of the Red Deer Optimist Rebels Midget AAA side that captured the 2012 Telus Cup as national midget champions last April. Trailing Phénix du Collège Esther-Blondin by a score of 5-1 heading into the third period, Fisher and Dixon were integral pieces to Red Deer’s come-from-behind double overtime victory.

Fisher netted five assists in seven games at the 2012 Telus Cup and won the face-off that led to Red Deer’s double overtime goal to win the tournament. The 6-2, 175 lb forward also notched 31 points (12G-19A) in 34 games of Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL) regular season play for the Rebels in 2011-12. The 17-year-old was selected to participate in the AMHL All-Star Game last season and would go on to record five points (3G-2A) in 10 games of playoff action en route to a provincial title. Fisher signs with Victoria after being placed on the club’s Player Protected List in September of 2011.

Dixon, a 6-4, 170 lb defenceman, signs with Victoria after being placed on the franchise’s Player Protected List in September of 2010. Dixon registered one assist in seven games at the 2012 Telus Cup for the Red Deer Optimist Rebels. The 17-year-old also notched 10 assists in 30 games in the 2011-12 AMHL regular season to go along with 44 penalty minutes for the Rebels. In post-season action, Dixon counted one assist through 10 games last year.
