The Summerside
Western Capitals (12-1) blanked the Truro Bearcats (9-9) 3-0 Wednesday
night in Summerside in Game #5 in a Best of 7 Kent Cup Final series.
With the win, the Western Capitals win the series 4-1 to become the Kent
Cup Champions for 2012-2013.
Mitchell Maynard led the Western Capitals with 2 assists.
After
a scoreless opening 2 periods of play, Christopher Caissy (game winner)
opened the scoring at 4:28 to give the Western Capitals a 1-0 lead.
Colton Parsons (powerplay) scored at 8:02 to extend the lead to 2-0.
Justin Rasmussen rounded out the scoring at 14:05 to secure the
championship for the Summerside Western Capitals.
Summerside went 1 for 2 on the powerplay while Truro went 0 for 3.
Kevin Bailie stopped all 26 shots he faced for the shutout win while Shayne Campbell stopped 20 of 23 shots in the loss.
Both
the Summerside Western Capitals and the Truro Bearcats will have a week
off to prepare for the Fred Page Cup-Eastern Canadian Championships
that being hosted in Truro. The Western Capitals and the Bearcats will
also face the winner of the CCHL and the LHJAAAQ. The Fred Page Cup runs
from May 1st to 5th at the Rath EastLink Community Centre.
