Oceanic’s Alexandre Mallet Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Alexandre Mallet of the Rimouski Oceanic is the CHL Player of the Week after scoring three goals and two assists for five points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3 for the playoff week ending April 22.

Mallet helped lift the Oceanic to three straight road wins beginning last Tuesday with a 5-4 victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in Game 7 of the QMJHL Quarter-Finals where he scored two goals and one assist.  The Oceanic then opened their QMJHL Semi-Final series on the road against the Halifax Mooseheads with a pair of victories including a 4-1 win on Friday where Mallet scored a goal, followed by a 5-4 win in Game 2 on Saturday with Mallet contributing one assist.

Mallet, a 19-year-old from Amqui, Quebec, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season and finished the year with a career-high 34 goals and 47 assists for 81 points in 68 games.  He currently ranks tied for seventh in QMJHL playoff scoring with 18 points in 13 games.

Also considered for the award this week was Klarc Wilson of the Edmonton Oil Kings who scored a goal and four assists for five points in two playoff victories against the Moose Jaw Warriors.  In the OHL, Tobias Rieder of the Kitchener Rangers scored four goals and three assists for seven points in three games.
