Vees take 2-0 lead in Doyle with narrow win in Game 2

Press Release

The Penticton Vees showed they can win in a number of ways and Michael Garteig showed he is ready for prime time again.

After a 7-2 win in the opener, Penticton earned a 1-0 victory over the Brooks Bandits in Game 2 of the Doyle Cup to put themselves up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series and bring things back to B.C. for Game 3 Tuesday, April 24.

Wade Murphy's power-play goal from Steven Fogarty and Bryce Gervais at 5:48 of the first period proved to be the only scoring in the game. Vees goalie Michael Garteig, in his first game since Feb. 26, showed he is healthy and in top form as he made 18 saves in the opening frame and 43 overall to earn the shutout.

Penticon held the Bandits scoreless on seven power-play chances as well.

The series now shifts to the South Okanagan Events Centre for Game 3 on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and any other necessary games after that.
