Mooseheads’ Zachary Fucale Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Zachary Fucale of the Halifax Mooseheads is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 7 after posting a perfect 2-0-0-0 record with a pair of shutout victories earning a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000.

Fucale and the top ranked Mooseheads opened the QMJHL Quarter-Finals with two straight shutout victories against the Gatineau Olympiques.  Fucale stopped all 33 shots he faced in both games including a 20-save performance as third star of the 7-0 series opening win on Friday night, then made 13 saves as second star of the 5-0 win in Game 2 on Saturday.

Fucale, a 17-year-old from Rosemere, QC, is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Mooseheads and is a top rated prospect eligible for the 2013 NHL Draft.  Through six playoff games, Fucale leads all netminders with a goals-against-average of 0.67 and save percentage of .961.

Also considered for the award was last week’s winner Laurent Brossoit of the Edmonton Oil Kings who won two games against the Medicine Hat Tigers in WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final action including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .982.  In the OHL, Anthony Stolarz of the London Knights picked up two wins against the Kitchener Rangers in Western Conference Semi-Final action including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .984.
