Oil Barons announce re-signing of Head Coach and GM Gord Thibodeau

The Oil Barons are pleased to announce that Gord Thibodeau has agreed to call Fort McMurray home for the next three hockey seasons. He has re-signed as Coach / GM which will keep him a Fort McMurray Oil Baron through the 2012-2013 season.

Gord has spent 16 seasons as a Head Coach in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the last 7 at the helm of the Oil Barons. One of the most respected coaches in the AJHL, some of Gord’s accomplishments with the Oil Barons include;

- 428 Regular Season Games - 245-136-47

- 117 Playoff Games - 69-48

Gord’s main motivation for coaching is to develop young players both on and off the ice and to prepare them for the next level. Over his career he has secured for his players:

- 56 Pro Hockey Commitments

- 83 NCAA Commitments

- 60 CIS Commitments

- 90 ACAC Commitments

- 46 WHL Commitments

“The numbers simply tell the story of what a great Coach/General Manager and Mentor Gord has been for so many players,” President Andrew Boutilier stated.

Gord Thibodeau commented, “I am happy to be part of the Oil Baron family and I am excited to re-sign. I look forward to adding to the tremendous success and history that the Oil Baron franchise has achieved.”
