Draft Players of the week

Each week, International Scouting Services (ISS), Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW), Hockey Now, and The Pipeline Show recognize the Top Draft Eligible player from each of the WHL, OHL, QMJHL, & USHL leagues for the upcoming 2009 NHL Entry Draft based on their play over the course of the week. Players are nominated and the selected by graduates of the SMWW Hockey GM & Scouting with each of the winners receiving a gift acknowledging their selection.


ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE – OHL

Ontario Hockey League – Nazem Kadri, London Knights

Nazem Kadri earns this week’s draft performer award after scoring 3 goals and adding 3 assists in 3 games versus the Saginaw Spirit. Kadri is currently second on the Knights and fifth in playoff scoring with 7 goals and 7 assists in 8 games. Kadri is an offensively gifted player who can play at both ends of the ice.

Western Hockey League – Linden Vey, Medicine Hat Tigers

Linden Vey is this week’s WHL winner after scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in 3 games for the Tigers. Vey has 2 goals and 5 assists in 9 games in the 2009 playoffs which currently sees the Tigers in the second round after surviving a tough 7 game series with Swift Current. Vey is a talented player who has the ability to be in the right place at the right time in the offensive zone.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – Charles-Olivier Roussel, Shawinigan Cataractes

Charles Olivier-Roussel is the QMJHL nominee after scoring once and adding 2 assists in 2 games in Shawinigan’s second round series versus Gatineau. Roussel is currently fourth in defensemen playoff scoring with 3 goals and 5 assists in 6 games. Roussel is known as a mobile, puck moving defenseman.

United States Hockey League – Paul Phillips, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders

Paul Phillips is the winner of this week’s USHL award as he registered 2 assists in his final weekend of the regular season. Phillips finished the season in the top ten in defenseman scoring with 8 goals and 25 assists in 60 games. Phillips is known for his physical play as well as his passing ability and strong shot from the blueline.
