Rangers, Kantor agree to contract terms

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with undrafted free agent forward Michael Kantor.

Kantor, 21, registered 20 goals and 13 assists for 33 points, along with 93 penalty minutes in 56 games with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season. He established career-highs in goals and points. Kantor ranked fourth on the team in goals, eighth in points, and third in penalty minutes. He also tied for third on Sudbury with six power play goals, and was one of four Wolves’ players to record a shorthanded goal.

In the postseason, Kantor recorded playoff career-highs in games played (nine), goals (two), assists (two), points (four), and penalty minutes (12) with Sudbury. He tied for fourth on the team in playoff goals and fifth in playoff points.

The 6-1, 200-pounder has skated in 197 career OHL contests over four seasons with the Sudbury Wolves, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, and Saginaw Spirit, registering 43 goals and 51 assists for 94 points, along with 420 penalty minutes. Kantor established career-highs in assists (21) and penalty minutes (136) in 2011-12 while splitting the season between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. He made his OHL debut with Saginaw on January 7, 2010, at Windsor, and recorded his first career point with an assist the next day against Guelph.
