Stampede name Dallas Steward assistant coach

Press Release

Sioux Falls, SD—The Sioux Falls Stampede are excited to announce the hiring of Dallas Steward as assistant coach. He replaces Andy Jones who recently resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at Division I Clarkson University.

Steward is no stranger to the USHL. The Chippewa Falls, WI native played from 1998 to 2000 with the Green Bay Gamblers and won a Clark Cup with the club in 2000. That year he finished fourth on the team in scoring with 45 points. He went on to play four years of Division I college hockey at the University of Alaska-Anchorage where he served as captain during his senior season and helped the Seawolves advance to WCHA Final Five. He went on to play five years of professional hockey with stints in the CHL and ECHL.

“We are thrilled to have Dallas join our staff,” said Stampede head coach Kevin Hartzell. “Just meeting and talking to Dallas I could tell he was very special talent. He was known as a hard working, competitive player and I know he will bring that passion to the Stampede. He is following a line of good coaches and I see him doing great things for our team,” added Hartzell.

Steward also served as a captain while playing for the Pensacola Ice Pilots and Augusta Lynx of the ECHL. The speedy forward battled injuries, but had his best season as a pro in 2009-10 when he tallied 31 points (11g, 20a) in 43 games.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to be in Sioux Falls,” said Steward. “I am looking forward to being a part of the great community and family of Sioux Falls. Personally, I want to have an impact on these young men both on and off the ice and use my experience at various levels to help them get to that next level. I can’t wait to get started,” added Steward.

Steward’s coaching experience includes 12 years as a hockey instructor. He most recently worked as a coach for the USA Select 14 and 17 Festival in Rochester, NY. He was also a coach for the Bantam AA East Coast Eagles in Raleigh, NC. He helped guide the Eagles to a third place finish at the U.S. Nationals in Buffalo, NY.

Steward will arrive in Sioux Falls this week in time for the start of training camp. All players will be reporting to Sioux Falls on September 4th with the first day of practice slated for September 6th. The Herd open exhibition play on September 17th in Brookings against Des Moines.
