Press Release
Brandon, MB. – With the club’s Training Camp set to begin next week the Brandon Wheat Kings have announced the appointment of Wade Klippenstein as the Western Hockey League team’s new director of scouting.
Klippenstein replaces Al Macpherson, who stepped down as the Wheat Kings’ director of player personnel earlier this summer.
A
native of Coaldale, Alberta, who was born in Boissevain, Klippenstein
has spent the past six seasons with the Prince George Cougars in both a
coaching and management capacity. He spent the past four seasons as the
Cougars’ assistant general manager and director of player personnel.
Prior
to joining the Cougars, Wade served as an assistant coach at the
University of Alaska Fairbanks for three years. As well, he has worked
in the WHL as both a Head Scout (Moose Jaw) and Assistant Coach (Prince
Albert and Saskatoon).
"I'm
very excited to join the Wheat Kings," says Klippenstein, who was
chosen by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1990 National Hockey League Entry
Draft. "Looking forward to meeting the staff, the players...and after
playing all of minor hockey in the province, it's both an honour and a
priviledge to become a member of Manitoba's WHL team."
The
fifth all time leading scorer in U of Alaska history, Klippenstein will
remain Head Scout for Team Pacific in preparation for this year's World
Under 17 Challenge Cup, in addition to his duties with the Wheat Kings.
“Wade
has a real diverse background and brings a wealth of experience to our
organization,” says Brandon General Manager and Head Coach Kelly McCrimmon.
“After a thorough process, I am confident he will do a great job
working with our existing scouting staff leading our organization
forward.”
A native of
Lacadena, Saskatchewan, Macpherson joined the Wheat Kings in 1986 and
twelve years later he became a full time employee of the WHL club when
he was promoted to his current post.
Klippenstein
won’t have long to wait to see his new team begin to take shape as
Wheat Kings’ Training Camp is scheduled to get underway next week at
Westman Communications Group Place.
