Hitmen add size, grit in trade

Press Release

The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club announced today that they have acquired forward Joe Mahon from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft and a conditional sixth round selection in 2015.

“We are very excited to add Joe, a forward with some significant size, grit and character, to our lineup,” commented Hitmen General Manager and Vice President, Business Operations Mike Moore on the 6-5, 223-pound right wing.  “The experience he gained from the Memorial Cup last season will be beneficial to our group.”

Mahon, a native of Calgary, Alberta, recorded three points (two goals, one assist) along with 133 penalty minutes over 41 games played during his 2012-13 rookie season with Portland.  The 19-year-old forward appeared in four playoff games with the Winterhawks and suited up for two games with the 2013 WHL championship team at the MasterCard Memorial Cup in May.
