Panthers Agree To Entry Level Contract With D Alex Petrovic

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms on an entry level contract with D Alex Petrovic (Red Deer -Western Hockey League).

“Alex is another one of our top draft picks from last year that we are pleased to have signed,” said Tallon. “He is a big and physical player who played very well in Red Deer this season, leading all defensemen on his team with 57 points. Alex is committed to working hard in the development process and we are confident that he will play a big part in our organization’s future success.”

Petrovic, 19, played in 69 games with the Red Deer Rebels this season placing first among the club’s defensemen with 57 points (7-50-57), while pacing the team with 140 PIM. The Edmonton, Alberta native, who was named to the 2011 WHL Eastern Conference second all-star team, was drafted by Florida in the second round (36th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Petrovic appeared in nine playoff games for Red Deer this year, registering six assists and 23 PIM.

For his career in Red Deer, Petrovic has played in 202 games scoring 17 goals with 81 assists and 299 PIM. Petrovic becomes the second 2010 draft choice signed by the Panthers, joining F Quinton Howden (first round – 25th overall) who signed on Apr. 6.
