Austin, Minnesota team announces nickname, logo

Press Release

The Austin, Minnesota team that will begin play in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) next season has announced the release of its nickname and logo.

The team will be called the Austin Bruins.

“We asked for input on a name for the team and have given away season tickets to one of the people who suggested Bruins,” said team owner Craig Patrick. “There were many creative entries, but none held the hockey history, combined with some local history, directly tied to the Austin area like Bruins does.”

Back in 1854, when Austin Nichols built the first log cabin on the land now called the city of Austin, the area was a haven for wild game, including bears.

“We’re tying all of that into the team name and image,” Patrick added. “This team is for Austin and we’re going to do our best to provide an experience that’s unrivaled in junior hockey.”
