Zalewski's heroics clinch POW honours

Vernon Vipers forward Michael Zalewski has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 10, the league announced Wednesday.

Zalewski scored in both Game 3 and Game 4 including the series-clinching overtime tally to oust the Powell River Kings and send the Snakes into the Doyle Cup.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound native of New Hartford, New York is now tied for second on the Vipers with five goals in the playoffs. Zalewski, 18, is committed to attend NCAA Division I program Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the 2012-13 season.

Honourable mentions this week go to Powell River Kings forward Chad Niddery who tallied a goal and two assists in the series' final two games, Vernon defenceman Steven Weinstein whose three assists keyed the Vipers Game 4 comeback and Vernon forward David Robinson who scored Vernon's first two goals in Gam
